Our nutrient bags are made from a blend of organic grains and organic plant matter. They are sterilized in an autoclave and packaged in a laboratory.

Required quantities:

Size of the mycelium bag Area sown Number of nutrient bags required harvest potential
1.5 kg About 5 square meters 5 nutrient-rich bags Between 3 and 7.5 kg of morels
3 kg About 10 square meters 10 nutrient-rich bags Up to 15 kg of morels

Why use commercial dog food?

The morel first feeds on its "endogenous" food, which is found in the soil. Soon after, the morel's mycelium must then be fed with "exogenous" food, which is placed directly on the ground. This voracious mushroom requires a supply of sugars (starches, cellulose, and simple sugars).

For this purpose, we recommend ournutrient bags, which should be placed with the opening facing the ground. Another technique involves using cooked apples, cut in half and placed with the opening facing the mycelium growth.

The morel's mycelium thus travels from a nutrient-rich environment (its inoculation site), through a nutrient-poor environment (the soil), and then back to a sugar-rich environment (exogenous food). It is this alternation between nutrient-rich and nutrient-poor environments that allows it to properly develop its sclerotia, which in turn enables it to produce beautiful morels.

Timing

When should the nutrient bags be installed?

When the mycelium has fully emerged (visible mycelium on the soil surface)—which generally occurs 1 to 2 weeks after inoculation—the nutrient bags are placed on top of the exposed mycelium.

To allow the mycelium to enter the bags, you’ll need to open them. Make sure your hands are clean for this step, and rinse the surface of the bag with tap water if it has come into contact with the ground or a dirty surface. To open them, you can either make a hole about 2 cm wide using a storm lighter, or make a few 2–3 cm cross-shaped cuts with a clean knife. Place the open side directly on the mycelium. Avoid touching or moving the bags until the end of the cultivation process, as this negatively affects the mycelium.

These grain bags should be left in place for a few weeks, without being touched unless there is contamination from mold or insects, for example. If you observe the bags closely, you should see the mycelium colonizing the grains within a few days of placement. Around February–March–April, when temperatures begin to rise—about 2–3 weeks before fruiting—these bags will be removed to encourage fruit growth.

If you are unable to use the bags immediately upon receipt, we recommend storing them in a clean, cool place and using them within 3–4 weeks of receipt.

We recommend adding 1 to 2 bags of fertilizer per square meter.

Note: All warranty claims must be submitted within 10 days of receiving the package, with the bags still sealed in their plastic packaging. Claims must be submitted viaemail, accompanied by detailed photos of the issue.

We guarantee that the bags are sterile upon receipt of the package, but we do not guarantee the success of the cultivation, which depends on many factors, including the grower’s experience.

When should the bags be picked up?

  1. Removal Period: Nutrition bags should generally be removed about 2 to 3 weeks before the fruiting period, which often occurs in March or April, when temperatures begin to rise.

  2. Signs of Harvesting: You can see the mycelium colonizing the grains in the days following the placement of the bags. Once the mycelium turns orange and then brown, this indicates that it is drawing on its resources and is ready for the next stage.

  3. Harvesting Instructions: Make sure the mycelium has fully colonized the substrate before removing the bags. This ensures that the mycelium has accumulated enough nutrients to support fruiting.

Top-notch product

Great product, but unfortunately the delivery time was too long and the bags arrived too late.

However, the communication was up to par.

Thank you
