Ourorganic rye grains are intended for the production of grain mycelium for mushroom cultivation. Rye is one of the most commonly used grains in mushroom cultivation due to its good cooking properties, uniform size, and composition, which is well-suited to mycelium development.

Available in 1 kg, 5 kg, and 25 kg packages, these grains are suitable for both hobbyists and growers who want to prepare their own bags or jars of mycelium.

Why use rye to produce mycelium?

  • Excellent cooking performance: the grain resists splitting when properly hydrated.
  • Even distribution of mycelium: the size of the grains ensures a uniform mixture after colonization.
  • Suitable nutrient source: rye offers a favorable sugar composition and a good carbon-to-nitrogen ratio.
  • Versatile: can be used to prepare grain mycelium in jars or autoclavable bags.
  • Belgian organic product: beans from a Belgian farm that practices biodynamic farming.

Use in mushroom cultivation

To grow mycelium on rye grains, the grains are typically prepared in several steps:

  1. Soaking the beans to ensure they are properly hydrated.
  2. Cook in boiling water to ensure proper internal hydration.
  3. Drain and air-dry to prevent excess moisture in bags or jars.
  4. Sterilization in autoclavable bags or jars.
  5. Inoculation with a liquid culture, colonized agar, or other clean mycelium.

Once established, the rye mycelium can be used to inoculate various growing media suitable for the cultivated species.
