Gray oyster mushroom, "blue oyster", pleurotus ostreatus var. KB1 (columbinus)

Native to our temperate forests in Europe, the oyster mushroom generally grows on old trunks or dead branches. It is mainly found in autumn and at the end of winter. It is a mushroom rich in proteins, B vitamins and different amino acids. At the medicinal level, oyster mushroom has anti-tumor properties (Hobbs, 1995) and helps to reduce blood cholesterol levels (Gaudreau, 2010).

The oyster mushroom is a very simple mushroom to grow. Resistant, it adapts to a variety of substrates ranging from straw to sawdust. Today it is the second most cultivated mushroom in the world.

The caps range in size from 5 to 15 cm, color ranging from light gray to dark brown depending on growing conditions.

Our KB1 variety is part of what we call "pleurotus columbinus". These tend to have bluish colors with low fruiting temperatures (10-15°) at the start of fruiting.

This variety produces large caps and large diameter stems with a tender texture that is more tender than most other varieties of oyster mushrooms. This strain is the most productive we have. Furthermore, it is excellent in terms of taste and the conservation is good.

We recommend keeping the mycelia in the fridge(1-4°) and using it within a month of receipt.

Growing conditions

Can be grown all year round, ideal temperature between 12 and 20°. High humidity at the start of fruiting until the buds appear,

Remove the bunches by hand, turning them gently, before the edges of the caps turn brown and rise up. Remove any pieces of mushrooms, keep moist until the next harvest.

Substrates

In indoor cultivation: pasteurized straw, pasteurized sawdust and other lino-cellulose materials.

We recommend our “Optimal” substrate , particularly suitable for wood varieties. Our organic straw pellets are also suitable for growing oyster mushrooms.

In outdoor cultivation : logs /mulch.
