Wheat bran is the husk that protects the grains. It is rich in fiber, proteins, mineral salts and vitamins. It is suitable for most woody mushrooms such as oyster mushrooms or shiitake mushrooms.
The addition of wheat bran to straw or sawdust can vary depending on the recipe: generally between 10 and 20% by dry weight. It helps increase the productivity and nutritional qualities of mushrooms.
Note that the fact of enriching a substrate with wheat bran also makes it more conducive to contamination (bacteria or mold), and that it is therefore all the more necessary to practice good pasteurization/sterilization and to inoculate into the most sterile conditions possible.
