Our nutrient bags are made from a blend of organic cereals and organic organic materials. They are sterilized in an autoclave and packaged in the laboratory.
Why use exogenous food bags?
The morel will feed first on its so-called “endogenous” food, that which is found in the soil. Quickly, the morel mycelium will then have to be fed with so-called “exogenous” food, which is placed on the ground. This gourmet mushroom needs sugar intake (starches, cellulose and simple sugars).
For this we recommend our nutrient bags which should be placed with an opening towards the ground. Another technique is to bring cooked apples, cut in half and placed with the opening towards the explosion of the mycelium.
The mycelium of the morel will thus pass from a rich environment (its point of inoculation), through an environment poor in nutrients (the earth), to go again towards an environment rich in sugars (exogenous food). It is this alternation of rich environments that will allow it to properly develop its sclerotia, which will then allow it to produce beautiful morels.
When to place the nutrient bags?
When the explosions of the mycelium are present (visible presence of mycelium on the surface of the soil), i.e. generally 1 to 2 weeks after inoculation of the mycelium, the nutrient bags are placed on the visible mycelium.
In order for the mycelium to enter the bags, you will need to open them. Work with clean hands for this step and clean the surface of your bag with tap water if it has been in contact with the ground or a dirty surface. To open them, you can either make a hole of +-2 cm with a hurricane lighter, or make a few 2-3 cm crosses with a clean knife. Place the open surface directly on the mycelium. Avoid touching or moving the bags until the end of the culture, as this negatively impacts the mycelium.
These bags of food will be left in place for a few weeks, without touching them except in the case of contamination by mold or insects, for example. By carefully observing the bags, you should see the mycelium colonizing the mycelium on grains in the days following installation. Around February-March-April, when temperatures start to rise, about 2-3 weeks before fruiting, these bags will be removed to encourage fruit growth.
If you cannot use the bags directly after receipt, we advise you to store them in a clean, cool place and use them within 3-4 weeks of receipt.
We recommend adding 1-2 nutrient bags per square meter.
Note: All warranty claims must be submitted with the bags still sealed in their plastic within 10 days of receipt of the package. Claims are made by email with detailed photos of the problem.
We guarantee the sterility of the bags upon receipt of the package, but we do not guarantee the success of the culture, which depends on many parameters, including the experience of the myciculturist.

When to remove the bags?
-
Removal Period : Feeding bags should generally be removed about 2-3 weeks before expected fruiting, which is often March-April when temperatures start to warm. go back up.
-
Signs of Withdrawal : You can observe the mycelium colonizing the mycelium on grains in the days following the placement of the bags. Once the mycelium has taken on an orange then brown color, this indicates that it is drawing on its resources and is ready for the next step.
-
Removal Conditions : Make sure that the mycelium has colonized the substrate before removing the bags. This ensures that the mycelium has accumulated enough nutrients to support fruiting.
