Lion's Mane (Hericium erinaceus) is a mushroom valued for its culinary qualities and natural composition. It contains compounds such as erinacines and hericenones, which are the subject of scientific research related to their interaction with nerve growth factor (NGF).
Characteristics of culture substrates:
- Harvest: Up to 1.5 kg of fresh mushrooms over 3 harvests.
- Composition: Water, wood shavings, cereals, lime, Lion's Mane mycelium. Net weight of the bale: +-5.2 kg. Dimensions: 25 x 20 x 20 cm.
- Usage: cooking & extraction of the active principles from the mushroom.
Lion's Mane can grow all year round in temperatures of 10 to 25°C. For optimal fruiting, avoid drafts and temperature variations. They require high humidity without being wet.
Tips for use: If you do not have adequate growing space, place a transparent plastic bag perforated with small holes above the bale. Air the bundle twice a day by removing the plastic.
Note: Harvest indications are based on our experience, but are not guaranteed. Productivity depends on growing conditions and grower experience.
(*) Our bales are certified organic “BE-BIO-01” by Certisys (Belgium).

Follow the manual to ensure the success of your cultivation and harvest.
To begin, remove the air from the bag well by making a small cut in the top if necessary. Fold the plastic on its side and secure it with tape or by laying it on its side.
Then, make two 5 cm cross cuts on each side of the bale. The substrate must remain moist; use a spray if necessary. Primordia appear after 1 to 2 weeks and develop within 1 to 2 weeks.
Harvest the mushrooms when the hydnes (stingers) measure approximately 5 mm. If the mushrooms turn yellow before this point, they have likely been stressed by drafts or temperature changes. Then harvest them and wait for the next harvest.
🌸 Fruiting parameters:
Fruiting temperature | 12-25°C |
Relative humidity | 85-95% |
Fruiting duration | 4-8 days |
CO2 concentration | 500-1000 ppm |
Fresh air exchange | 4-8 volumes/h |
Light requirement | 500-1000 lux |
Number of harvests | 2-3 harvests, 10-15 days apart |
🏡 Where to grow your mushrooms?
Ideal for indoor cultivation (kitchen, garage, cellar), Lion's Mane appreciates indirect sunlight. Avoid drafts, radiators, and direct exposure to sunlight.
You can make 3 to 4 harvests with this type of bale. To harvest, gently tear off the bouquet by turning it. Remove any remaining stem pieces to prevent them from rotting and harming future crops. After a few days of rest, immerse the bundle overnight in water, drain it, then wait for the next harvest.
Lion's Mane will keep for about 5 days in the refrigerator in a paper bag. For longer storage, dry them and grind them into powder.
