Wheat bran is the husk that protects the grains. It is rich in fiber, protein, minerals, and vitamins. It is suitable for most wood-loving mushrooms such as oyster mushrooms or shiitake.

The addition of wheat bran to straw or sawdust can vary depending on the recipes: generally between 10 and 20% by dry weight. It helps increase the productivity and nutritional qualities of mushrooms.

Note that enriching a substrate with wheat bran also makes it more prone to contamination (bacteria or molds), so it is all the more necessary to practice good pasteurization/sterilization and inoculate under the most sterile conditions possible.
