Usable in Organic Farming. The straw pellets are made from certified organic straw (without glues or treatments). We are controlled and certified by Certisys (BE-BIO-01).

Pelletizing the ingredients allows standardization of the substrate, elimination of a large part of contaminants during compaction. Storage takes up 4 times less volume, saving you space. Long-term preservation is guaranteed, you can use it when you need it.

Our organic straw pellets are particularly suitable for all our oyster mushrooms. They can also be used as an ingredient for eryngii, black pearl, or other substrates, with supplementation of cereals and/or beech pellets for example.

Usage

Add 2 liters of water per kilo of straw pellets to reach +-66% water. Note: It is better to add a little less water than too much because it is harder to recover later.

Example:

Take one of our microfilter bags.

Pour 1 kg of organic straw pellets and 2 liters of boiling water (99°C) to create rapid pasteurization.

Let swell and cool.

Add the mycelium (between 150 and 300 gr per 3 kg substrate bag).

Seal the bags leaving air inside the bag and the filter well clear.

Gently mix to distribute the mycelium throughout the substrate.

For varieties with fast and aggressive mycelium like oyster mushrooms, it is possible to put cold water directly on the pellets, a teaspoon of slaked lime (calcium hydroxide), and inoculate with +- 10% mycelium.

Let incubate for 2 to 3 weeks in the dark at 20°C.

Put into fruiting by making a cut on the side of the bag and keeping it moist.

You can also use our column bags. The mycelium must then be mixed beforehand with the hydrated pellets and the bags must be pierced with small holes to allow aeration.

Note

The bagging process can cause a slight variation in the weight of the bags. We recommend a moisture content of +-60% of the substrate (=600 gr of water for 400 gr of dry matter to reach 1 kilo of wet substrate).

Straw pellets

I was surprised by the volume obtained by mixing 5 kg of pellets with 7.5 kg of water (water/pellets ratio given on your site). I thought I would fill 2 buckets of 10 liters, but in fact I could have filled 4 or 5.
It would be interesting to communicate about the expansion of the pellets to avoid this inconvenience.
Otherwise, the inoculation is going well and the mycelium has started colonizing the substrate.
