Composition: wood chips, grains, reishi mycelium.

Net weight of the block: approximately 5.2 kg.

    Dimensions: 25*20*20 cm (L*W*H)

The reishi (Ganoderma Lucidum) has been used by various peoples for hundreds, even thousands of years, for its numerous medicinal properties.

Its red and orange caps are quite hard and fibrous, so they are generally consumed as a tea or ground into powder.

In traditional Chinese and Japanese medicine, dosages typically range from 1.5 g to 9 g per day of dried mushroom or the equivalent in tablet, capsule, or solid/liquid extract form.

Additionally, its dense, thick, and very compression-resistant mycelium presents interesting properties for insulation, which is why it is also used in myco-materials research.

    MYCOMATERIALS

These blocks can also be used to create your own mycelium forms. Break the wood chip block while keeping the plastic closed, kneading it until it returns to the powdery texture of the wood chips. You can then use this substrate by placing it in your pre-cleaned molds. After a few days at room temperature, the mycelium will reform into a solid block. You can then unmold it and dehydrate it in the oven to stop the mycelium's growth.

      Usage

To cultivate reishi, we recommend the following technique. Leave the plastic bag closed, trying to maximize the air inside the bag. If necessary, you can open the bag slightly to allow air in and reseal it with tape. The goal is to create a mini greenhouse with a very high CO2 level inside. This will promote the development of the "antlers." This stage can take between 30 and 60 days.

When the antlers are about 15cm tall, or two-thirds of the airspace in the bag, you can open the top of the bag to create an air inlet, which will promote the development of the caps. Allow it to continue growing for approximately 30 days, and your reishi will be ready to harvest.

      Where to Cultivate?

Indoors (kitchen, garage, cellar). Reishi likes warmth (20-30°C). Depending on the humidity of the location, it may be necessary to humidify regularly with a spray. However, avoid letting the block sit in constant water. Reishi appreciates indirect sunlight (think "understory" growth). Avoid anything that might dry out the block: drafts, radiators, direct sunlight.

      Harvesting & Storage

We generally make 1 harvest from this type of block. After the harvest, you can try for a second harvest in the garden: bury it, leaving 2-3 cm of soil on top, and it may produce a small harvest early the following summer.

Reishi mushrooms keep for about 3-4 weeks in a paper bag in the refrigerator. For longer storage, you can also dry them.
