Pleurote gris "Blue Oyster" (Pleurotus ostreatus var. KB1 - Columbinus)

Originating from the temperate forests of Europe, the oyster mushroom generally grows on old trunks or dead branches. It is mainly found in the autumn and at the end of winter. This mushroom is rich in protein, B vitamins, and various amino acids. They also contain beta-glucans which are known for their beneficial impacts on health.

The oyster mushroom is a very easy mushroom to grow. Resistant, it adapts to a variety of substrates, such as straw and sawdust. Today, it is the second most cultivated mushroom in the world.

The caps measure between 5 and 15 cm, with colors ranging from light gray to dark brown, depending on growing conditions.

Our KB1 variety belongs to the "pleurotus columbinus". These mushrooms show bluish tints at low temperatures (10-15°C) at the start of fruiting.

This variety produces large caps and large diameter stems, with a softer texture than most other oyster mushrooms. It is also the most productive strain we have, offering excellent flavor and shelf life.

❄️ We recommend that you store the mycelia in the refrigerator (between 1 and 4°C) and use them within one month of receipt.

🌱 Growing conditions

Oyster mushrooms can be grown all year round, with an ideal temperature between 12 and 20°C. Maintain high humidity at the start of fruiting until buds appear.

To harvest, carefully remove the clusters by hand by turning them gently, before the edges of the caps turn brown and rise up. Remove any remaining mushroom pieces and maintain moisture until the next harvest.

🛠️ Substrates

In indoor cultivation: Use pasteurized straw, pasteurized sawdust or other lignocellulosic materials.

Use pasteurized straw, pasteurized wood shavings, or other lignocellulosic materials, in indoor or outdoor cultivation. We recommend our organic straw pellets which work particularly well with oyster mushrooms, by simply adding 1 teaspoon of lime and 2 liters of cold water per kg of pellets. 

Our wood chip-based substrate suitable for lignivorous varieties will also work very well.

In outdoor cultivation: Use logs or mulches.

📈 Productivity

The average harvest is 200 to 350 g of fresh mushrooms per 1 kg of wet substrate, over 2 to 3 harvests.
