The button mushroom is the most consumed mushroom worldwide. It is related to meadow agarics which are generally found in grazed meadows. Button mushrooms are generally grown on a substrate based on pasteurized composted manure.

It is a layer fungus, which means that it grows on a horizontally arranged substrate, covered with a casing layer. This layer has the function of maintaining constant humidity and providing certain bacteria favorable to the fruiting of mushrooms.

To learn more about growing mushrooms on a small scale, we recommend the following readings:

👉 Semi-professional: Agrodoc 2: Small-scale mushroom cultivation (Agaric, Volvaire)

⚠️ Please note that button mushrooms are not the easiest to grow. Compost preparation requires some technique. If you are new to mushroom growing, we recommend starting with our ready-to-grow button mushroom kits or our gray oyster mushroom mycelia.

Storage: 1 month in the refrigerator.

📊 Culture Settings

Inoculation rate: 0.5 to 5% mycelium relative to wet weight compost. It is recommended to start with 5% mycelium to limit the risk of contamination and gradually reduce this rate as techniques become more refined.

Example: 1.5 kg of mycelium allows you to sow between 30 and 300 kg of compost, producing between 6 and 60 kg of fresh mushrooms over 2 harvests in optimal conditions.
