“MPA” medium (Malt, Peptone, Agar-agar):

It is a classic medium ideal for the multiplication of most mycelia.

“Sabouraud + Antibiotic” medium:

By adding an antibiotic (chloramphenicol), the development of bacteria is limited, making it very selective. This recipe is typically used for riskier work, such as cloning mushrooms from the wild or germinating spores. Mycelium growth is slower than with MPA medium.

These media are designed for use with our sterile petri dishes and stretch films.

Use :

  • Dissolve the 47 g sachet in 1 liter of hot water (preferably distilled or demineralized water). Homogenize.
  • Sterilize at 121°C (15 PSI) for 20-30 minutes.
  • Allow to cool to 45-50°C, then distribute into petri dishes.

Cooling and distribution of the agar in the petri dishes must be done in a sterile environment (laminar flow hood, bunsen burner or other technique) to avoid contamination.

If you pour the liquid too hot into the petri dishes, condensation may form on the lids. If you wait too long to cool, the mixture may solidify.

Agar-agar:

If you would like to create your own blend, we sell agar-agar separately. Depending on recipes, it is generally recommended to use between 20 and 25 g per liter.

Enrich your growing media with specific ingredients such as potato extract, malt, dog kibble, manure extract, sugar, sawdust, etc.

It is also possible to produce a "Water Agar" medium, without enrichment, which is useful for certain laboratory work such as the selection or purification of strains.
