The Lepista nuda, also known as Blue Foot, is a litter mushroom that generally grows on the ground in nutrient-rich areas. It is common to find it in fairy rings under oaks and beeches, among fallen leaves, and sometimes under certain conifers. This mushroom is distinguished by its typical, slightly aniseed scent.

🌱 Growing conditions

Outdoor cultivation is recommended for the Blue Foot, although it is possible to grow it indoors on beds (composted manure + casing layer). Outdoors, it can be seeded in mulches around compost areas, leaf litter piles, or various organic debris. The colonized substrate must be covered with a thin layer of soil or potting soil to maintain moisture. Commercial growing conditions are similar to those of Button Mushrooms. Outdoor planting should preferably be done in spring for fruiting in autumn, during the first frosts.

🛠️ Substrates

The Blue Foot thrives on aerated substrates such as composted manure, composts, and leaf litter. Like other bed mushrooms, its mycelium is stimulated by the presence of certain specific bacteria found in soils.
