Nutrient bags for growing organic morels

Our grain bags consist of a mixture of selected organic cereals, apple pulp, and vegetable fibers. They are sterilized in an autoclave and packaged in a laboratory.

Why Use Exogenous Food Bags?

Morel mushrooms will first consume their so-called "endogenous" food, which is found in the soil. Quickly, the morel mycelium will then need to be fed with "exogenous" food, which is placed directly on the ground. This voracious mushroom needs a supply of sugars (starches, cellulose, and simple sugars). We recommend our nutritive bags that are placed with an opening towards the ground. Another technique is to use cooked apples, cut in half and placed with the cut side down on the mycelium.

The morel mycelium will thus transition from a nutrient-rich environment (its inoculation point), through a nutrient-poor environment (the soil), to another nutrient-rich environment (the exogenous food). This alternation of nutrient levels enables the mycelium to properly develop its sclerotia, which will then produce beautiful morels.

These food bags should be left in place for a few weeks, without disturbance, except in cases of contamination by mold or insects. By carefully observing the bags, you should see the mycelium colonize the grains in the days following placement. Around February-March-April, when temperatures start to rise, approximately 2-3 weeks before fruiting, these bags should be removed to encourage fruit growth.

They can be stored for several weeks before use.

We recommend adding 1 to 2 nutritive bags per square meter.

Note: All warranty claims must be submitted with the bags still sealed in their plastic within 2 weeks of receipt. Claims should be made via email with detailed photos of the issue.
