Create your mycelium-based biocomposites: sculptures, objects, prototypes, panels, textures…
- Living mycelium on substrate, ready to use
- 3 L size (1.5 kg): ideal for prototyping, workshops, schools, makerspaces
- For mycomaterials (not a fruiting kit)
- Compatible with your molds: silicone, cardboard, 3D printing, fabric…
- Bio-sourced material based on hemp and compostable at end of life
For whom?
Artists, students, designers, architects, schools, makers, researchers: anyone who wants to explore a living, textured, surprising material — and learn by experimenting.
What you can make
- Small objects: pots, vases, design pieces, stage accessories
- Sculptures & textures (effects like “skin,” “mineral,” “fiber”)
- Packaging / cushioning prototypes
- Samples of panels (acoustic / decorative), tiles, non-structural bricks
Performance (strength, soundproofing, fire resistance, etc.) depends greatly on species, substrate, density, drying, and additives.
How it works (simple)
- Store in a cool place upon receipt.
- Work cleanly (gloves + alcohol) and crumble the colonized substrate finely.
- Shape it: fill a mold and compact.
- Let it “incubate” for 3 days at room temperature (18-25°C), then dry/treat to stop growth and stabilize the piece.
Tip: It is possible to unmold after 2-3 days and do a second incubation outside the mold, in a closed, humid environment to encourage the mycelium to aerate and densify on the surface.
Contents
- 1 bag of colonized substrate (≈ 3 litres, ≈ 1.5 kg) ready to use
Storage (important)
This is a living product. For best results: refrigerate upon receipt and use quickly after delivery.
Safety & use
- Product intended for creation / research & development / materials.
- Not for food use.
- Avoid inhaling dust/spores: work in a ventilated area, wear a mask if sanding/drying.
- If allergic to molds/fungi, handle with care.
FAQ
Does this make mushrooms grow?
This product is sold for mycomaterials. It is not designed as a fruiting kit.
How many pieces can I make with 3 L?
It depends on density/compaction and additives: several small pieces, or 1–2 larger prototypes.
What if I see white inside the bag?
The white usually corresponds to growing mycelium: this is normal on colonized substrate.
What to do if there is a strong smell or a colour appears?
A very sour smell, bright colours (green/black), or a “powdery” appearance may indicate contamination: it is better to avoid indoor use.
How do I stop the growth?
Once the piece is well bound, dry it and/or apply heat treatment to stabilize.
Can I add pigments / fibres / waste?
Yes: textiles, papers, cardboards… Test in small batches. However, be aware this increases contamination risks if materials are not pasteurized.
